A.C. Thomson’s orange ranch near Fish Canyon and Bettyhill in Duarte, circa 1896. Thomson developed the Thomson Improved Navel Orange, a seedless variety prized for shipping, according to the 1897 Monrovia Messenger souvenir edition.
The account described a 40-acre ranch with 28 acres in oranges and lemons. Thomson had sold 30,000 buds from his improved orange trees the previous year, and much of his orange crop went to New York.
