Duarte reports 24.2% rise in year-to-date major crime

Duarte's year-to-date Part I crime is up 24.2% from the same period in 2025, with theft—particularly copper wire theft—a primary factor, according to the city's October public safety report. The total remains 13.9% below the comparable period in 2021.

Deputies have adjusted patrol schedules to increase overnight coverage, are advising affected businesses on security, and are using surveillance video and the city's Flock camera network to investigate thefts, the report says.

The report is on the City Council's Oct. 27 agenda for receipt and filing. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in City Council Chambers, 1600 Huntington Drive (agenda here).
